People are becoming more and more confused over the plethora of articles and self serving blog posts about Oolong tea claiming knowledge about a topic they know nothing about. As soon as a researcher giving oolong tea to rats mentioned "weight loss" that was the open door for the scam artists to go into overdrive and proclaim that Oolong tea is now clinically proven to solve the worlds' weight loss problems.

Manipulation of facts for monetary gain is now the norm on just about every Oolong tea website claiming magical weight loss properties. Even celebrities have been dragged into the arena either knowingly for financial reward or unwittingly like Oprah and Rachel Ray. The websites are cleverly designed with big celebrity pictures and the overall impression is to strongly imply that celebrities are drinking and endorsing the vendors own brand of Oolong tea weight loss product.

That is an example of Oolong tea website owners using half truths with a spin designed to fool people into buying their supposed weight loss tea product. Confusion brought about by deliberate mis-information. A while back, January 26th 2004 to be more specific, the Wall Street Journal published an article by Jennifer Saranow titled “Steeped in Confusion”. (Full Article) Since this time nothing has changed to keep the public properly informed on the benefits, or otherwise, of drinking tea on a regular basis for either natural health or weight loss purposes.

Like anything else related to losing weight and health, the FDA and other similar global agencies have no interest in the rampant lies and deceit. It quite literally takes a death or two for them to take action against the people producing these pills and potions as in the case of the weight loss compound Trimspa which was linked to the unfortunate death of Anna Nicole Smith. It is important to realize that the FDA is primarily about making sure that a product has been demonstrated to be safe so on the rare occasion that you see a weight loss product with 'FDA Approved' stamped on the label it absolutely does not mean that it will work and slim you down. Most weight loss products have an FDA disclaimer in the small print somewhere saying it is NOT FDA approved.

Of course, since 2004 there have been numerous studies and clinical trials with various Oolong teas more geared toward humans than laboratory animals, and although many of the results are looking promising as we gain more understanding into the world of polyphenols, anti oxidants, flavonoids and theaflavins as they impact our natural health from the drinking of Green, White, Oolong and Black Teas we must always remember not to take what the sellers of these weight loss tea packages tell us at face value.

Oolong tea is a popular Chinese tea that has become more popular around the world, and there are many marketers capitalizing on the Oolong tea weight loss popularity in the west. That aside, because there are studies that have found various types of tea (such as Oolong and Green) to have weight loss benefits, they are being heavily promoted to be effective weight loss supplements; however, they are much too overhyped and overpriced. If you really wanted, simply purchase loose oolong or green tea and drink two or three cups a day.

It appears that Oolong tea is somewhat more effective at increasing energy expenditure and thus better at aiding weight loss. A Japanese study done on Oolong tea found that energy expenditure increased by 10% after consuming Oolong tea, whereas drinking green tea increased energy expenditure by just 4%. Although there are plenty of studies that confirm the weight loss effects of oolong tea and green tea, they are by no means the magical weight loss solution as what some advertise them to be.

Drinking some Oolong tea each day will help increase your energy expenditure, and provide you with many other health benefits; however, don’t expect to lose 10lb simply by drinking the tea. For consistent and effective weight loss, you need to be active, exercise regularly, and you must have a good diet in place that promotes healthy and slow weight loss. How to Prevent Prostate Cancer

There is growing evidence that certain micro-nutrients, more specifically antioxidants, may help prevent cancer prostate. It has also been shown that lypocene and other antioxidants reduce the risk of cancer prostate. Antioxidants may help shield against prostate cancer and heart disease by neutralizing harmful molecules known as oxygen free radicals. "This large prospective study provides further evidence that oxidative stress may be one of the important mechanisms for prostate cancer development and progression, and adequate intake of antioxidants, such as selenium, lycopene and vitamin E, may help prevent prostate cancer," said Dr Haojie Li, a researcher at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School. The potential importance of diverse antioxidants in prostate cancer development is further supported by recent results indicating decreased prostate cancer incidence among men with increased exposure to selenium and vitamin E supplements. More and more research shows that antioxidants in vegetables, particularly tomatoes and broccoli, can lower prostate cancer risk, while foods from animals may increase risk.

BENEFITS OF TOMATOES

One dietary supplement which seems to dramatically reduce prostate cancer risk is lycopene, especially found in diets heavy in cooked tomatoes. Lycopene is a phytochemical that is found in certain fruits and vegetables like tomatoes and grapefruits. Tomatoes also contain significant quantities of potassium, as well as some vitamin A and vitamin E. As in the previous study, the benefits appeared to come primarily from cooked products, rather than from raw tomatoes. Also, tomatoes figure prominently in a Mediterranean type diet, which includes plenty of fruits and vegetables and olive oil, and lesser amounts of meats and animal fat. These findings suggest that intake of lycopene or other compounds in tomatoes may reduce prostate cancer risk, but other measured carotenoids are unrelated to risk

Some scientists believe that rates of cancer in the modern world are largely tied to the drastic imbalances in our diets between Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids. Researchers at the Christie Hospital in Manchester found evidence for this effect in laboratory tests, where they showed that omega-3 fats can inhibit invasion by prostate cancer cells, potentially reducing the threat of metastasis. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in salmon and other fatty fish, cold-water fish such as tuna, trout, striped bass, sardines, and herring, and are available in supplement capsules. Omega-3 enriched eggs from hens fed rations containing flaxseed are also very popular. Omega-6 fatty acids are concentrated in corn, sunflower and most oils in the processed foods we eat.

The American diet is almost devoid of Omega 3's, except for certain types of fish. RED WINE

Red wine had the greatest impact on the most aggressive, fast-spreading prostate tumors, leading to a 60 percent reduction in such cases, researchers found. Red wine contains oligomeric proanthocyanidins or procyanidins, which are plant antioxidants. Several studies suggest that four to eight glasses of red wine per week spread out over several sessions will lower your prostate cancer risk.

An analysis finds the risks of having advanced prostate cancer was 50 percent lower for men who drink five or more cups of green tea a day compared with those who have less than one cup, the study said. Study suggests consumption of soy protein may play a role in reducing the risk of prostate cancer. Exercise may reduce, and even reverse, bone loss caused by hormone and radiation therapies used in the treatment of localized prostate cancer.

You can't prevent prostate cancer just by taking vitamins or supplements, but growing evidence says changing your diet and behavior could lower your risk. Research has shown that total intake (diet and supplement) of 200 mg/day can reduce your prostate cancer risk. Although that is a lot of green tea, there are supplements that seem to offer the same protective effect. Saw Palmetto is a supplement that has been proven to reduce the effects of benign prostate hyperplasia, and possibly the risk of prostate cancer.
