my mom has been taking this herbal life stuff, she is taking healthy meal nutritional shake mix. and the personalized protein powder. does this stuff make her gain weight and should she be taking both of these?

To gain/loose weight, eat only when hungry and that too not more than three times a day. Uncooked fruits/vegetables shud be taken with each meal to the extent of 50%. No food/drink other than water in between. Chew each morsel at least 32 times. This activates ur body system to give u effective signals when u have had enough.

Take light exercises and brisk walks regularly preferably twice a day.

Do not get panicky to loose/gain fast. After all u have taken years to come to the present state. Be patient.

Is it safe to eat soup with lemongrass in it when pregnant?

I am 5 weeks pregnant and heard that lemongrass should be avoided during pregnancy as it can induce miscarriage/labour. However, this came from a website about herbal teas and essential oils which talks about using large concentrated amounts of the herb,
I recently bought some Thai soup which contains lemongrass. Would this be ok to eat as it may be a small amount or should I avoid it altogether?

I am very scared as I am so early on in pregnancy, I don't want anything to go wrong.

Its not something I've heard of to avoid during pregnancy but I would use the maxim my other half says to me when I'm nervous about eating something - 'If you're going to worry about it, you won't enjoy eating it so what's the point anyway?'

As I said, I don't think you'll come to any harm but you may not enjoy it anyway!

been a vegetarian for a month now, lost 3 pounds, do i need more protein?

so in highschool i weighed around 120 to 125. after hs i have weighed 115-117 for 4 years now. about a month ago i started eating vegetarian/ vegan and after a big dinner and a dessert i weighed myself (i was watching the biggest loser finale), and i weighed 112. i dropped 3 pounds. i thought i was eating well, i eat whole wheat and grain breads when i feel like it, have some desserts and tons of veggies fruits nuts etc whenever i want, ive also been exercising now so maybe that has something to do with it. should i drink protein shakes or eat something more? idk. i dont eat dairy or eggs anymore either. btw im 5'6" and now 112 lbs. a body mass index calculator said tht im underweight. thats y im asking.

Losing weight isn't necessarily because of lack of protein, just a decrease in total calories. If you have been exercising more now than you used to, then that probably has a lot to do with it. Just increase your intake of calories and you should be able to get back up to your previous weight. Nuts (and nut butters), seeds, and beans are dense with calories, so those are good. Avocados and coconuts also have a lot of calories. Dried fruit (raisins, craisins, dried apricots, dried mango, etc.) is also very dense in calories. If you want to drink protein shakes, I'm sure that would be perfectly fine and helpful in gaining some weight back, but not absolutely necessary if that isn't something that sounds appealing to you. You can make tasty shakes with vanilla soy, rice, or almond milk and then fruits or veggies. I like bananas and peanut butter, so a banana and peanut butter protein shake would be very tasty, dense in calories and also would have good nutrients. I would just look to switch some of the food you eat with few calories to some food that has more calories since your looking to add a few pounds. Like if you eat celery, either add peanut butter, or switch to a vegetable with more calories like peas. Oh, and also use cooking oils like olive oil on your foods because those have a lot of calories and good fats. Good luck gaining back your lost weight!
